Jorts- /jorts/ noun. Shorts made out of denim fabric.
Who doesn’t love jean shorts? I live in them in the summer time. Usually, I’m breaking them out way before socially acceptable (i.e. late March… oops). While I love them now, I used to have a love hate relationship with them. I wanted to like them so badly, especially when it was in style to sport the Abercrombie or Hollister design on the back pocket of a pair of cut offs that showed half of a butt cheek.. oh how I do NOT miss those days. Sadly, they never worked for me when I was younger. We all have our own weird perceptions of our bodies, and I’ve always thought that my legs were too athletic to wear jean shorts. Something about putting on an ill fitting pair of jean shorts makes me feel like Arnold Schwarzenegger pre Terminator, don’t ask me why. Now that I’m older and I have a better idea of what looks flattering on me, I’ve gotten much better at picking the right pair of shorts.
This spring, I found myself scrolling through Instagram and coming across the same pair of shorts countless number of times. I honestly felt like I couldn’t click on a photo without these shorts popping up. Now that I consider myself somewhat of a jean shorts connoisseur, I jumped at the chance to try them. The Agolde Parker Vintage Cutoffs were flooding my Instagram and now they’re hanging in my closet. They’re a little bit pricey, but I’m going to give you guys an honest review of them, as well as a more affordable alternative.
First, let me start by saying that I really liked these shorts. The fit was exactly what I was looking for: they weren’t too tight in the legs, they were loose fitting without being baggy, and they were overall very flattering. I read reviews that said to size down, but I was skeptical, as I REALLY don’t like my jean shorts too tight. I bought my usual size and they fit great… I’m so glad I didn’t size down.
While I loved these shorts, I did want to find a cheaper alternative. I didn’t mind investing in one pair, but I like to have a variety of washes for my denim shorts, and I really wasn’t prepared to buy a second pair of these. Lucky for me… and for you!… I found the perfect pair.
These shorts are the Abercrombie High Rise Rigid Denim shorts. I LOVE them. The fit is strikingly similar to the Parker shorts for about 1/3 of the price. These are loose without being baggy, and flattering without being uncomfortable. As far as the sizing goes, I sized up one and honestly could have sized up two sizes if I wanted a little bit of a looser fit.
All in all, I would say you can’t go wrong with either pair. If you’d like to shop directly from this post, clicking on either picture will take you right to my Liketoknowit page! I hope this review helps, and happy shopping!
